According to a survey of 450 patients with allergic rhinitis, only half had heard of desensitization. Of these, 56% had a positive view, particularly because of improved quality of life and well-being, and 14% a negative opinion, because of difficulties of treatment, its duration and outcome uncertain.
On the passage to the act, only 50% of desensitization which was proposed agreed to undergo desensitization, which is about 60% are satisfied.
The specific immunotherapy or desensitization is currently the only treatment of allergic rhinitis. Since the development of the sublingual desensitization form, the only disadvantage of this treatment is its long duration.
Desensitization in practice:
Desensitization involves administering gradually increasing doses of the allergen responsible for allergic reactions to induce a state of tolerance towards it.
Injections are less and less used since the appearances of the sublingual form which to deposit directly under the tongue doses of allergen.
The advantage is that the concentration doses of allergen is more important, thus quickly reach the optimum dose (15 to 20 days). Side effects are rare, treatment is done at home and this technique is easily applicable to young children.
